Alginate derived from seaweed with very high absorbency—turns into a gel and can be removed in one piece.
Description
Cutimed Alginate is made from natural seaweed and consists of 20% calcium alginate and 80% sodium alginate. The backing is a semi-permeable nonwoven fabric coated on both sides with natural seaweed fibers; an integrity layer in the core provides the dressing with improved wet stability.
Upon contact with wound exudate, calcium and sodium ions exchange places, and the alginate transforms into a gel as it absorbs fluid. Absorption and retention capacities are very high and take effect quickly—this reduces the number of dressing changes and lowers the risk of maceration. Because the fluid remains securely trapped within the core, the dressing can be removed in one piece with minimal discomfort. In addition, Cutimed Alginate has a hemostatic effect on lightly bleeding wounds and, thanks to its highly flexible fibers, conforms to any wound bed.

Indications
- Moderately to heavily exuding wounds
- Superficial injuries, avulsion wounds, and pressure sores
- diabetic ulcers as well as venous and arterial leg ulcers
- Donor sites and postoperative wounds
- Can also be used with compression therapy
- Change the dressing no later than 7 days; maximum duration of use is 30 days
Summary
An alginate dressing that can be removed in one piece eliminates the need to scrape fibrous residue from the wound. Its hemostatic effect also makes it the dressing of choice immediately following debridement.
